Welcome to the Friends of Fission - Midwest Blog

Our mission is to promote the use of nuclear fission in the upper

Midwest, nationally, and worldwide.

We are about activism, not so much about education in all things fission.

At times, we will include snapshots that highlight progress and

show the advantages of nuclear fission - the MOST RELIABLE,

GREENEST and SAFEST form of electricity generation.

Many of the Friends of Fission are folks who have worked in the fission

power industry and have vast technical knowledge. Every one of us is

an "environmentalist" who supports clean air, clean water, and a reduced

carbon footprint for the planet. Those who are not in the industry

are highly educated on fission power through years of self-study.

We hope that if you are joining this blog you too are an environmentalist

who believes that a clean energy future will be optimized through the

expansion of fission power to replace polluting sources of energy.

This is not exclusive of working synergistically with other clean

technologies to meet our electric energy needs.

Again, we are about activism. What can you do to help?

Here we will spotlight opportunities to educate the public and politicians

who are on the fence about nuclear fission power - to replace myths with

facts and fears with comfort that this is the right thing to do.

The End of Baseload, REALLY?

Fission, Wind, Solar, & Hydro are cleanest sources of electricity. Due to solar penetration and storage on the grid at large, fission is under some pressure to re-establish itself. When Trump is gone this penetration can only accelerate.

Fission needs to:
Get new factory built designs approved, installed, and working soon. Expansion is urgent, no major hiccups, no delays.

The cost of its energy must be in the ballpark with natural gas - NG. If so, NG can be reduced. It's not doing that - it's increasing at 9 GW per year, and may only go higher with new data center build outs. Remember, this power is dirty with CO2 (earth warming), NOx, other carbon toxins, heavy metals, and methane (earth warming) emissions. How will this impact the health/well-being of nearby communities and the hidden cost of healthcare with waves of new cancers, emphysemas, autoimmunity and many other maladies?

Great read! Wisconsin has already accomplished so much. Reversing their moratorium, commissioning studies, extending the license of Point Beach. Looks like announcing a new build at Kewaunee is next!
